40 Years On
On 23rd April nearly 60 OEs, former members of Common Room, guests and current staff were welcomed to their 40 Year Reunion in Main Hall by Karen Doyle, Education Trust Director. Karen gave special mention to Ian Hargrave (R 1973-77), who had been of huge support to the Education Trust and OE Club team last year during his term as OE Club President.
Earlier in the evening, the OEs, some who had not been back to the College since they left in the Upper 6th, enjoyed a tour of the campus, led by three Crawfurd pupils. Following a curry supper, the guests were pleased to hear from Headmaster Jay Piggot, who talked about College life in the 1970s and brought guests up to date on the latest developments with a presentation on the Lower School, opening in September, and Epsom College in Malaysia.
The OEs, who left between 1974 and 1978, were delighted to catch up with an array of former staff including Michael Squibbs, Murray Young, Norman and Carole Rice, Stephen and Rosemary Oliver, Chris and Jean Trewhella and David Young. A slide show of photos from the 1970s was on view all evening and more photos were on display, allowing guests a closer look at their earlier selves and providing amusement at the hair styles of the era.
Following the event, Ian Cunliffe (Cr 1970-74) commented "The food, drinks and ambience in Main Hall were splendid, and it was really good to renew old friendships and talk of shared experiences."
