Neil Laing Fund Run raises over £4,000 for bursaries
Over 100 runners and walkers took part in the sixth annual Neil Laing Fund Run on Sunday 22nd March. This year's race generated an excellent turnout from pupils, staff, parents, families and friends who completed the 2.5k, 5k or 10k course set within the College grounds and raised a grand total of over £4,000.
Four generations of one family took part with Hywel Bowen-Perkins (Crawfurd/Robinson 1966-1970) accompanied by his 90 year old mother, Margot; his wife, Jane; three of their four sons, Gareth (Crawfurd 1994-99), Tomas (Crawfurd 1996-99) and Hywel (Crawfurd 1993-98); three daughters in law and five grandchildren, including four week old Arthur - and not forgetting 12 year old Dylan the Corgi who has walked the course on two previous occasions!
Emanuele Palladino (Crawfurd 1992-1997) mustered up the largest group with 13 family members and friends taking part. He commented, "We had a really fun time and are looking forward to next year when we hope to have an even bigger group!"
The bursary fund is named in memory of Neil Laing, a much admired member of Common Room from 1974 to 2006. The long-term aim of the fund is to raise a capital sum of £500,000 which would generate enough income to provide a full bursary in perpetuity. Bursaries really do change lives, enabling talented students whose parents could not afford the fees the opportunity to study at Epsom.
If you have any questions about the Neil Laing Bursary Fund and are interested in donating, or would like to be involved in any capacity, please contact the Education Trust Director, Karen Doyle, who would be delighted to speak with you: karen.doyle@epsomcollege.org.uk or 01372 821290.
A big thank you to everyone who turned up on the day, whether to walk, run, help marshal the course or to cheer everyone on. We hope to see you back next year!
