OE Medical Society Dinner 2018
Heavy snow in London and the South East failed to dampen the spirits of 26 OEs, parents and guests who enjoyed an excellent dinner at Barber-Surgeons' Hall on 2nd March, hosted by President of the Medical Society, Phil Mitchell. One couple even flew in from Germany on the day, but unfortunately other guests were unable to attend due to cancelled trains, planes and dangerous road travel.
Before the dinner, Jeremy Bolton (Cr 1956-62), retired Consultant Psychiatrist, Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Barbers and a Governor of Epsom College, kindly gave some guests a guided tour of the Company's paintings and historic artefacts.
During the evening, the President talked about the history of medicine at the College. Karen Doyle, Education Trust Director, then spoke of the College's biggest fundraising campaign for 160 years, to raise funds for a new state-of-the-art building. The guest speaker, Lt Col Hugo Guthrie MB BS FRCS(Tr & Orth) MBE, gave an inspiring account of the medical rigours of his time on the frontline in the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts.
We are very grateful to Jeremy Bolton for giving the tour and for sponsoring the Champagne, to Phil Mitchell and Bryan Mayou for sponsoring the wine and to all the OEs and parents who generously subsidised places for younger members of the Society.
