OEs return for a day of nostalgia
OEs were back in force for their Pre-1970 Leavers' Reunion on Saturday, organised by the Education Trust & OE Club Team. Over 110 guests, some of whom were at the College during WWII, met in Big School for drinks and lunch, while an extensive slide show of College images from the 1940s to 1960s played throughout the afternoon.
Guests were welcomed to the event by Education Trust Director, Karen Doyle. The Headmaster, Jay Piggot, gave a presentation on College developments and achievements, and two M4s in Forest House, Kit Man and Tom Bulmer, talked about life at the College today.
In the afternoon, guests enjoyed pupil-led tours in the sunshine, taking in several departments in the Quad, as well as viewing the new Lower School for pupils age 11-13. Back in Big School, College Archivist Rebecca Jallot opened a fabulous display of Archive Material, which included information on the Cold War, as well as many photos, school uniform and other ephemera from guests' time at Epsom.
OEs had travelled from all over the globe to the Reunion, and some had not been back since they left the College at the age of 18. One OE remarked afterwards, "It was my first time back at the old school for any kind of function since leaving 51 years ago and it was wonderful to meet with so many of the same vintage." Another commented, "Thank you for arranging such an enjoyable reunion. The College looked splendid and I was so pleased to catch up with old friends and acquaintances."
Our thanks go to all those who supported the event, including MC for the day, David Cronyn (H-S/F 1946-51), Denny Jacobson (R 1952-57), who said Grace, and Paul Sievers (F 1952-57), who took many of the photos on view here.
